Goin' to the Zoo

We went on a preschool fieldtrip to the zoo a few weeks ago. It was our first time, and it was a nice little zoo. It's no San Diego Zoo, but it's actually much more "user friendly" since it's much smaller and flat. I used to really have to put my game face on for all those killer hills in San Diego! The kids all had a great time.

Instead of a monorail (the place isn't large enough to constitute a full on safari tram), they had a little train ride. The kids liked it a lot.
Parker with his friend Ben (my first hint we were with a fellow Michigander was the Detroit hat).
They had a funny enclosure for the kids to be like caged animals. Very appropriate.

Parker has been enjoying weekly playdates with Bradley, who also goes to his school. They have a lot of fun together and we switch off houses. Works out great.
School picture of Parker's class. I asked Parker why his face looked like that and he said that the photographer told them to "put a bubble in their mouth." Hmmm... not the best technique for a natural smile but whatever.
The school also gets really into Cinco de Mayo and the classes have a Fiesta. There was Mexican food and games. The kids go to Spanish class for 1/2 hour each week so that's been something new and challenging for Parker.
 Senor Parker!

The class also made their own pinata. One thing I don't love about the school is their frequent use of candy. Sometimes the kids get to pick out of a prize/candy bowl if they've accomplished something, and then this pinata had more candy in it than you could imagine.
Austin doesn't share my frustration with the candy issue.
